Sushma expresses concern over safety of Bangladeshi Hindus

India on Sunday conveyed its concerns over safety and security of Hindu minorities in Bangladesh, in the recent spree of attacks on them and their religious establishments in Nasirnagar upazila of Brahmanbaria.

India’s external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj has directed the Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka to convey to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina India's grave concern over the issue, according to Times of India.

"I have asked Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka to call on the Prime Minister and express our grave concern about the safety and well-being of the Hindus in Bangladesh," Swaraj tweeted today.

On October 30, a group of religious zealots looted and vandalised fifteen temples and more than a hundred Hindu homes after protests over a Facebook post that allegedly ‘insulted Islam.’

National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) had said the attacks were carried out under a well-orchestrated plan aimed at grabbing lands of the minority community.
