Garo girl rape accused recaptured

Police have recaptured the prime accused of last year's gang-rape of a Garo girl who managed to flee from the custody on court premises in Dhaka two days ago.

The accused Afsan Rahman alias Rubel was recaptured in front of Suvastu Tower of Dhaka’s Badda area around 7:30am on Tuesday, said Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner (media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) had arrested the 26-year-old Rubel from Airport Railway Station area on Friday night. He was handed over to Badda police on Saturday. He managed to flee when police took him to the court on Sunday.

Several men hauled a Garo girl in a microbus in Badda area in May 2015 and they took turns to violate her.

Police and RAB arrested two gang-rape suspects within a week. The accused reportedly confessed to their crimes.
