RU teacher Atikur Rahman suspended

Atikur Rahman Raja, an assistant professor of mass communication and journalism department of Rajshahi University, has been temporarily suspended over the death of his colleague.

The decision was taken at the 469th Syndicate meeting held on Tuesday night with RU Vice Chancellor Prof Muhammad Mizanuddin in the chair.

Syndicate member Mamun Abdul Kaium said quoting the government service rules that if any public employee is arrested for criminal charge then he will be temporarily suspended from his post.

On November 5, police shown Atikur Rahman arrested in connection with a case filed over the death of Akter Jahan Joly, an associate professor of the same department.

On September 9, police recovered the body of Akter Jahan from her room at RU Juberi Bhaban and found a suicide note. Later, an autopsy confirmed that it was a suicide.

Kamrul Hasan Ratan, younger brother of the RU teacher, filed a suicide provocation case with Motihar Police Station on the following day.
