Ivy re-elected NCC mayor for second term

Ruling Awami League-backed mayoral candidate Selina Hayat Ivy has won the Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) polls for second straight term.

Ivy polled 1,75,611 votes while BNP-backed mayor candidate Advocate Shakhawat Hossain Khan got 96,044 in all 174 centres in the city corporation.

Ivy has been re-elected as the Mayor of Narayanganj City Corporation for the second straight term and her vote is 79,567 more than that of BNP’s Shakhawat.

The counting of the votes began shortly after the polling ended at 4:00pm. The voting was started in the 174 polling centres at 8:00am.

After casting their votes, both Awami League and BNP backed mayoral candidates expressed their satisfactions over the election environment and said they will accept the election result.

Meanwhile, at a press conference after the voting, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad thanked the voters, law enforcers and all those performed various duties for holding the election in a fair, peaceful and credible manner.
