Basirun’s long-drawn dream comes true at 65

Basirun Khatun, a 65-year-old widow, who appeared in this years’ Primary Education Completion (PEC) examination after her long fight against her critics , has finally come out successful.

She secured GPA-3 in the scale of maximum 5 in the examination, UNB reports.

Basirun is the example of indomitable willpower that overcame the age barriers. It is the time to pass her time with her grandchildren but in that age she passed the PEC and now she wants to get admitted to secondary school to fulfill her dream.

The results of PEC and its equivalent Ebtedayee examination were published on Thursday, showing an average pass rate of 98.51 percent.

Gray-haired Basirun along with her classmates went to her Hoglabaria Purbapara Primary School around 11 am on Thursday to get the result. Locals also gathered at the school out of curiosity.

She passed her time talking to her friends and playing with them while eagerly waiting for knowing the result.

After getting the result from a young man over phone around 2:30 pm, she became overjoyed and exalted.

he school authorities distributed sweetmeats among the students and locals to celebrate the success of indomitable woman.

Talking to UNB, Basirun said, “I couldn’t realise the charm of passing an examination before. Now I’m feeling awesome.”

She also vowed to continue her study until her death.

The sexagenarian woman thanked her teachers, classmates and family members for her success.

Selina Akther Banu, an MP from reserved seat, said Basirun again proved that the age is not an obstacle to willingness.

Gangni Upazila Nirbahi Officer Arif-Uz-Zaman and Matmura UP chairman Sohel Ahmed went to the house of Basirun to congratulate her.

Basirun, a widow and mother of one son and two daughters, has been living at Hoglabaria village in Gangni upazila with her son Mahir Uddin.

She was so devoted to education that she went to the primary school, one kilometere away from her house, every day on foot ignoring her physical pain.
