Heavy traffic jam in city

The city witnessed a heavy traffic congestion from this morning that caused untold suffering to the dwellers.

  
The traffic jam created due to Bangladesh Chhatra League’s programme for its 69th founding anniversary and road diversion for dumping works at the fire ravaged Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Market in Gulshan virtually paralysed the vehicular movement on Dhaka streets.

All roads in Mohakhali, Gulshan-1, Gulshan-2, Hatirjheel and Badda link road, Rampura, Shahbag, Motsha Bhaban, National Press Club, Gulistan, Farmgate, Bangla Motor Kakrail, Paltan and other areas were jammed with vehicles.

Abu Yusuf, senior assistant commissioner (Tejgaon Industrial Traffic Zone) said the tailback emerged in Gulshan and adjacent areas due to the road diversion for dumping works at the fire ravaged DNCC Market.

“Now, we are trying our best to bring normal vehicular movement on the streets,” he said.

On the other hand, thousands of Chhatra League activists paraded in Dhaka University, Shahbag and adjacent areas as BCL’s 69th founding anniversary today that created a huge tailback.
