Graft case: Khaleda’s hearing adjourned till Jan 12

A special court on Thursday adjourned the hearing of Zia Charitable Trust corruption case filed against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia until January 12.

Judge Abu Ahmed Jamadar of Dhaka Special Judge’s Court-3, set up at the playground of Govt Alia Madrasah in the capital’s Bakshibazar, passed the order.

Earlier in the day, Khaleda Zia appeared before the court for hearing on Zia Charitable Trust and Zia Orphanage graft cases.

However, the BNP chief could not give deposition of self defence in Zia Charitable Trust graft case today.

Now, the Zia Orphanage graft case hearing is going on.  

On December 21, the special court also deferred the hearing of Khaleda’s deposition of self defence and set the date for today (January 5).
In 2008, the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case against six including Khaleda and her son Tarique Rahman.

It alleged that the defendants had embezzled Tk 21 million from funds meant for the trust, which reportedly came from a foreign bank.

On August 8, 2011, the ACC filed the Zia Charitable Trust graft case with Tejgaon Police Station accusing four people, including Khaleda Zia, of raising funds for the trust from unknown sources abusing power.
