Graft case: Khaleda’s hearing adjourned till Jan 26

A special court on Thursday adjourned until January 26 the hearing of unfinished self defence deposition of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in Zia Charitable Trust corruption case.

Judge Abu Ahmed Jamadar of Dhaka Special Judge’s Court-3, set up at the playground of Govt Alia Madrasah in the capital’s Bakshibazar, passed the order.

Khaleda’s counsels sought time citing that a writ petition has been filed with the High Court in this regard.  

The trail of Zia Orphanage graft case against Khaleda is also underway at the court. Deposition of first investigating officer has been taken today.

The special court on January 5 also adjourned the hearing of the case filed against the BNP chief until January 12 (today).


In 2008, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case against six including Khaleda and her son Tarique Rahman.


It alleged that the defendants had embezzled Tk 21 million from funds meant for the trust, which reportedly came from a foreign bank.


On August 8, 2011, the ACC filed the Zia Charitable Trust graft case with Tejgaon Police Station accusing four people, including Khaleda Zia, of raising funds for the trust from unknown sources abusing power.
