Mastermind Rajib on 8-day remand

A court here in Dhaka today placed the held alleged mastermind of the Gulshan terror attack, Jahangir Alam alias Rajib alias Gandhi, on eight-day remand.

 

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate, Mahmud Hasan, has passed the order after conducting a hearing in this regard on the day.

 

Earlier police arrested the alleged mastermind of the Gulshan terror attack from Tangail district early Saturday.

 

Manirul Islam, Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and chief of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit, said, acting on a tip off, a CTTC team conducted a drive in Tangail and arrested Gandhi in the dead of night.

 

Twenty hostages -- nine Italians, seven Japanese, one Indian, one Bangladeshi American and two Bangladeshis -- were killed in the terror attack at Holey Artisan Bakery in Gulshan on July 1.

 

Besides, two senior police officers -- Banani Police Station officer-in-charge Salauddin Ahmed Khan and Detective Branch assistant commissioner Robiul Islam -- were killed when they tried to rescue the hostages.
