132 policemen awarded

A total of 132 policemen, including the two police officers who were gunned down during the Gulshan café’ attack of militants on July 1 last year, were awarded Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM) and President Police Medal (PPM) today in a function of the 'Police Week-2017'.

 

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina handed over the medals to members of police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) for their outstanding performance and their heroic roles in combating crimes at a formal ceremony in capital's Rajarbagh Police Lines here, reports BSS.

 

Of the award recipients, 41 members of police and RAB were awarded with PPM while 26 others with BPM. Besides, 24 policemen also received BPM-service and 41 others PPM-service for their outstanding contributions to solving important cases, expertise, dedication and discipline in the field of service.

 

Four police officers and constables who got posthumous awards are: Rabiul Karim, Assistant Commissioner (AC) of Police of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and Mohammad Salauddin Ahmed Khan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Banani Police Station, who were killed in militants' attack at Gulshan on July 1 and the other two police constables - Jahirul Islam and Ansarul Haque - who were killed during another militants' attack near the Sholakia Eidgah in Kishoreganj on Eid day.
