EC formation: Names of 6-member search body sent to cabinet

President Abdul Hamid has formed a six-member search committee for reconstituting the Election Commission (EC) and sent the names to the Cabinet Division.

President's Press Secretary Joynal Abedin told Samakal that a letter containing the names of the six-member search body has been sent to the Cabinet Division from the Bangabhaban today.

The cabinet division will issue a gazette disclosing the names of the search committee members who will recommend the names of the members for reconstitution of the EC ahead of the next parliamentary polls.

Earlier, President held month-long talks with the political parties of the country on the formation of a new EC. The dialogue ended on Wednesday last.

President held talks with 31 political parties, including the ruling Awami League, BNP and Jatiya Party (Ershad).

The political parties separately placed a series of proposals during the talks and most of the parties proposed to enact a law for the EC formation.
