Search body formed with unbiased persons: Hasan Mahmud

Praising the newly formed search committee for Election Commission reformation, Awami League (AL) Publicity Affairs Secretary Hasan Mahmud today said, ‘The search committee was formed with unbiased persons in the country.’

 

‘The search committee members have no political background and they are all from civil society and holding constitutional positions in their profession.’

 

The AL leader came up with the opinion while addressing a human chain program held at the National Press Club area in the capital on Friday.

 

‘You should thank the concerned authorities instead of making the search body controversial,’ Mahmud said pointing to BNP.

 

Earlier warning BNP, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed yesterday opined, ‘If BNP makes the search committee controversial one, they will suffer much.’

 

‘As search committee was formed after holding discussion with the political parties in the country, so BNP should not deny the committee,’ he told reporters.

 

Earlier Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain has been made the chief of search committee formed for reconstitution of the Election Commission.

 

The other members of the six-member committee are- High Court division Judge Obaidul Hassan, Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of Bangladesh Masud Ahmed, Bangladesh Public Service Commission Chairman Dr Muhammed Sadique, Dhaka University Professor Syed Manzoorul Islam and Chittagong University Pro-Vice Chancellor Shireen Akhter.

 

After formation of President’s search committee, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that his party was disappointed and agitated over the president’s search committee formed for reconstitution of the Election Commission.

 

He also alleged, ‘Awami League wants to hold the election through posting their like-minded people in the search committee.’

 

Earlier, President held month-long talks with the political parties of the country on the formation of a new EC.
