Tribute to Suranjit at JS premises

The last tribute was paid to the former minister and veteran politician Suranjit Sengupta at South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad on Sunday.

 

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have paid their last respect to veteran Awami League leader, who died on early Sunday.

 

At first the President and then the Prime Minister placed wreaths on the coffin of the veteran politician at the parliament premises.

 

After the placing the wreaths, they also stood there in solemn silence for some time as a mark of respect to the late leader.

 

He breathed his last at Labaid Hospital in the city early Sunday. The 71-year-old former minister had been on life support at the hospital.

 

Doctors declared Suranjit Sengupta dead at 4:24am, Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said quoting the family members.

 

He was suffering from acute low hemoglobin and taken to the Labaid hospital in critical condition on Saturday night.

 

The ruling party leader was taken to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) of the hospital on Saturday night as his condition was deteriorated. Later, he was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

 

Suranjit left behind wife Dr Joya Sengupta, son Soumen Sengupta, a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.  

 

Suranjit's body was taken to his Zigatola residence in Dhaka. 

 

Meanwhile, President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Speaker of the Parliament Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, ministers and others dignitaries have expressed deep shock at the death of Suranjit.
