Telecast of 3 Indian channels to continue

Supreme Court has passed no order on an appeal seeking a stay on the High Court verdict that cleared the way to air three Indian channels Star Plus, Star Jalsha and Zee Bangla.

Chamber judge of the Appellate Division Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order on Wednesday.

The court also asked the writ petitioner to move a leave to appeal petition before the apex court after getting the full text of the HC verdict.

Earlier on January 29, the High Court rejected a writ petition seeking directives upon the government to stop broadcasting the TV channels.  

On August 7, 2014, Supreme Court lawyer Syeda Shahin Ara Laily filed the writ seeking a ban on operation of the three Indian TV channels.

The programmes which are broadcasted by the channels leave adverse impact on social and cultural life of Bangladeshi people, she mentioned in the petition.

Earlier on October 19, 2014, the HC asked the government to explain in four weeks as to why it should not be directed to stop telecast of the three Indian television channels in the country.
