Canadian court verdict a conspiratorial drama of AL: Rizvi

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has alleged that the verdict of a Canadian court which leveled BNP as a terrorist organisation is a part of ‘conspiratorial drama’ of ruling Awami League.  

The BNP spokesperson came up with the allegation at a press briefing at the party Nayapalta central office in Dhaka on Thursday, a day after the Bangladeshi media report on the Canadian court verdict.

The government is out to create a hazy environment among the people ahead of the next parliamentary election, Rizvi said.

When asked whether they would file a petition against the verdict, Rizvi said “Decision in this regard will be taken after a discussion with the party senior leaders.”   

The Canada Federal Court has termed BNP a terrorist organisation while disposing of a judicial review application.

The judicial review appeal was lodged challenging a decision of the Canadian immigration officer that turned down the asylum application of a Bangladeshi national because of his association with the BNP.

Federal Judge Henry S Brown on January 25 upheld the decision of the immigration officer saying the BNP is a terrorist organisation.
