Education without skills a burden: Nahid

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Saturday opined that the education without skills create burden for a nation.

The minister came up with the opine while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration programme of ‘National Skills Competition-016’ organised by Skills and Training Enhancement Project (STEP) at IDB auditorium in Dhaka.

“Only certificate based education without developing skills create burden for the person, family and nation. So, technical education will be the mainstream education,” he said.   

The admission in the technical education has been increased from 1 percent to 14 percent of the total students, he said adding it will be made 65 percent in the final phase.

Presided over by Department of Technical Education Director General Ashok Kumar Biswas, the function was also addressed, among others, by Education Secretary M Sohrab Hossain, acting Secretary of Technical and Madrasah Education Department Mohammad Alamgir.
