Transport workers burn police wrecker in city

The workers have set fire on it around 8.15pm, says Masud Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Mirpur division.

 

The countrywide indefinite transport strikes enforced by the Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation, will continue.

 

Tajul Islam, president of the Bangladesh Inter-district Truck Drivers Union, has announced the strike while speaking at a rally, held at Gabtoli area in the capital today.

 

‘The strikes will continue for indefinite period till our demands are met,’ he added.

 

While speaking, Tajul Islam also said, ‘Convicted drivers should be freed and related laws have to cancel.’

 

Pointing to today’s transport strike, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq, however, said it is unfortunate that the countrywide indefinite transport strike has been enforced by Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation following a court verdict.

 

Today’s countrywide indefinite transport strike, enforced by the Federation has left people in distress and caused immense sufferings.

 

The Minister urged the transport workers to appeal in the higher court if they feel aggrieved by the verdicts.

 

The Minister made the comments while chatting with journalists, in a press briefing held over Japanese national Kunio Hoshi murder case verdict, at his secretariat office in the capital today.

 

The federation announced the indefinite strike across the country on Monday following a court verdict that awarded a driver Mir Hossain Miru to death in a case.

 

The case filed over a road crash that left a woman dead in Savar on 2003.

 

Pointing to country’s trial processes, Law Minister Anisul Huq on Tuesday said, Japanese national Kunio Hoshi murder case verdict is the 'brightest example' of concluding a murder trial in the quickest time.

 

Law and Justice Division Secretary Abu Saleh Sheikh Mohammad Zahirul Haque, was present among others, at that time.
