Elections to 14 upazilas, 4 municipalities underway

Voting in 14 upazila parishads and four municipalities under different districts began on Monday morning amid tight security.

The balloting began at 8am and will continue till 4pm without any break, reports UNB.

The polling is being held in three upazilas -- Osmaninagar in Sylhet, Guimara in Khagrachari and Jagannathpur in Sunamganj-- for the posts of chairman, vice-chairman and vice-chairman (woman reserve seat), while by-polls to 11 upazilas for vacant posts.

The by-polls for chairman post is being held at Kurigram Sadar, Sujanagar in Pabna, Banaripara and Gaurnadi in Barisal, Kathalia in Jhalakathi, Rangabali in Patuakhali, Adarsh Nagar in Comilla, Boraigram in Natore and Hoshenpur in Kishorganj, while for vice-chairman post at Chauddagram in Comilla, Jaldhaka in Nilphamari, Kalaroa in Satkhira and Morelganj in Bagerhat while female vice chairman post at Ishwardi in Pabna and Comilla Sadar south Upazila.
