Home Economics College students stage demo blocking roads

Students of Home Economics College on Saturday staged demonstrations blocking roads to press home their various demands, including the college to be declared as an institute of Dhaka University.

They started the demonstration in front of their college at Nilkhet on Azimpur road around 2:00pm, disrupting vehicular movement in the city.

Urging the students to join the demo tomorrow morning, Shammi Shoma, spokesperson of the agitated students, said the demonstration will be continued until their demands are met.

UNB adds: Vehicular movement on the road from Nilkhet to Azimpur came to halt due to the blockade.

Later, traffic movements returned to normalcy around 3:00pm after police intervened into the matter, said assistant commissioner (Lalbagh zone) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Salahuddin.

Their other demands included increasing transport and library facilities, sources at the college campus said.
