HC stays Viqarunnisa fee hike

The High Court on Monday stayed a fee hike imposed by Viqarunnisa Noon School and College’s ad hoc committee for one year.

The High Court bench comprising of justices Zinat Ara and Kazi Ejarul Haque Akondo issued the order after hearing a petition.

The HC bench also issued a rule asking why the ad hoc committee running the educational institution in Dhaka will not be declared illegal and unconstitutional.

The ruling asked nine persons including the education secretary, chairman of Dhaka education board and deputy commissioner of Dhaka to reply within the next four weeks.

The ad hoc committee hiked monthly tuitions by Tk 300 for the school section and by Tk 500 in the college section. It has also imposed an annual Tk 500 fee on student.

Lawyer Yunus Ali Akhand filed the petition. After the HC order, he said "The court has blocked the fee hike and issued a rule asking why the ad hoc committee will not be declared illegal.”
