Sexual assault: CU doctor sent on forced leave

The authorities of Chittagong University have sent a campus doctor on forced leave in the allegation of sexually assaulting a female student.

Confirming the matter, CU Vice-Chancellor Prof Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury said, campus doctor Mostafa Kamal Hossain will be on leave until the investigation of the complaint against him is completed.

The decision came in the wake of the students’ continuous demonstration demanding removal of the physician and disciplinary punishment for him.  

Meanwhile, the demonstration by the students of the university continued on Monday demanding the removal of the campus doctor for his assault to female student.

The agitating students also filed a complaint in this regard to the proctor on today. Their other demands include a campus free from all kinds of sexual repression and harassment, a full-time female doctor at the medical center, and its modernization.

However, an Accounting department student Mehadi Hassan said, “We suspended our programmes following the university authorities’ decision. Now, we are demanding speedy investigation.”

Last Friday, CU medical Centre doctor Mostafa Kamal Hossain allegedly groped a female student during the checkup.
