Injured Rab intelligence chief Azad dies at CMH

 Lt Col Abul Kalam Azad, the chief of the intelligence wing of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab), who was injured during an operation against militants in Sylhet, died at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Dhaka early Friday.

Azad, who was taken to Singapore for better treatment after his injuries in bomb blasts during the operation, codenamed ‘Twilight’, on March 25, breathed his last at the CMH around 5 am, Rab officials said.

Earlier, on Wednesday, Azad was brought back home from Singapore, UNB reports.

His first namaz-e-janaza will be held at Cantonment Central Mosque after Jum’a prayers while the second at Rab Headquarters at 3 pm.

He will be buried at Banani military graveyard.

Six people, including two policemen, were killed and 40 others, including Azad, Director (Intelligence) of the elite force, and another official of the wing, injured in two bomb blasts near a militant den at Shibbari in South Surma upazila, Sylhet on the night of March 25 during the army-led operation on a militant den.

He was flown to Singapore on March 26 for better treatment.
