10th World Autism Awareness Day observed

Bangladesh today observed the 10th World Autism Awareness Day with a call to create mass awareness about autism and improve the condition of autistic children.

 

The theme of the day was -- "Toward Autonomy and Self-Determination". 

 

Various government and non-government organizations chalked out programmes to observe the day in a befitting manner, reports BSS.

 

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages on the occasion hoping that the day's observation would help build further awareness on autism and improve the condition of autistic children. 

 

The Ministry of Social Welfare arranged the main programme at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital this morning where Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was present as the special guest. 

 

Health Minister Mohammad Nasim and Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Social Welfare Ministry Dr Mozammel Hossain were present at the function as the special guests, while State Minister for Social Welfare Nuruzzaman Ahmed presided. Secretary of the Social Welfare Ministry Zillar Rahman delivered the welcome address. 

 

The prime minister also distributed awards among successful autistic children and individuals and organisations working for the development of the children with disabilities.
