No poultry, fish feed using tannery waste: SC

The Supreme Court has upheld its earlier verdict asking the government to shut the poultry and fish feed factories that are using tannery waste of Dhaka's Hazaribagh.

A four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order on Sunday.

On December 7 last year, the Appellate Division scrapped a petition by Bangladesh Poultry and Fish Feed Manufacturers' Association challenging the verdict.

Earlier on July 21, 2011, the HC directed the authorities to stop operation of the poultry and fish feed factories at Hazaribagh following a writ petition.

Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh filed the writ petition in this regard for public interest on July 26, 2010. Advocate Manzil Morshed moved for the petitioner in the court.

According to the petition, the feed made with tannery waste is unhealthy for the poultry and fish. Moreover, the fish and poultry cultivated with such feed is also dangerous for human health.
