HC verdict on BDR carnage case any day

The High Court will deliver its verdict any day on the 152 death row convicts in the 2009 in BDR carnage case.

A three-member bench led by Justice Md Shawkat Hossain on Thursday finished hearing the appeals and death references before keeping the verdict pending.a

In November 5, 2013, a special court of an additional metropolitan sessions judge awarded the death penalty to 152 soldiers and non-commissioned officer of then Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) for the 2009 Peelkhana mutiny massacre.

Seventy-four people, including 57 army officials, were massacred during the BDR mutiny on February 25-26 in 2009 at the Pilkhana headquarters of the paramilitary force, later renamed Border Guard Bangladesh.

Among the 152 death row convicts, 14 remained absconding while another died in police custody.
