Netrokona Al-Badr commander sentenced to death

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 has sentenced Netrokona Al-Badr commander Mohammad Khalilur Rahman to death in a case of crimes against humanity.

The three-judge panel of ICT-1 headed by Justice Md Shahinur Islam pronounced the judgment against the fugitive convict on Tuesday morning.

On March 12, 2018, the tribunal laid five counts against the four accused. However, the three detained suspects passed away in detention from old age, leaving Khalilur as the only accused in the case.

In 1971, Khalilur joined the locally created Razakar Bahini while being a member of Islami Chhatra Sangha, the student branch of Jamaat-e-Islami. He then rose to lead the Al-Badr Bahini and carried out horrendous crimes against humanity there.
