No rice can be sold in the name of Miniket, its variety must be mentioned: Cabinet Secretary

Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam said no rice can be sold in the market in the name of miniket, the name of the variety should be written on the bag.

If there is an exception to this direction, legal action will be taken, he warned.

He made the statement to the journalists while visiting the Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRI) in Gazipur on Wednesday morning.

The Cabinet Secretary said that the Agricultural Extension Department had issued a circular in this regard a few days ago.

The various varieties invented by the scientists will be certified after proof and a decision will be taken on how to quickly deliver the varieties to the field level through the concerned department, he continued.

Information and Communication Technology Department Senior Secretary NM Ziaul Alam, Information and Broadcasting Ministry Secretary Maqbul Hossain, Fisheries and Livestock Ministry Secretary Nahid Rashid, Information and Broadcasting Ministry Retired Secretary Kamrunnahar, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council Executive Chairman Sheikh Mohammad Bakhtiar, Agriculture Ministry Secretary Syedul Islam , Deputy Commissioner of Gazipur Anisur Rahman were present on the occasion among others.
