4 to be hanged for killing schoolgirl after rape

In Narayanganj, the court ordered four accused to be hanged and another accused to be sentenced to life imprisonment in the case of rape and murder of a sixth grade schoolgirl.

Another accused - Nasreen Akhtar - has been acquitted in this case.

On Tuesday morning, Narayanganj Women and Children Court Judge Nazmul Haque Shyamal announced this verdict.

The accused who received death sentence are - Kamrul Hasan, Rabiul, Ali Akbar and Shukkur Ali.

Dolly Begum was sentenced to life imprisonment as an accomplice to the four accused.

Rabiul and Dolly Begum were absconding at the time of the verdict while the rest were present in the court when the verdict was pronounced.

On the morning of June 3, 2005 Afsana Akhtar Nipa, a sixth grade student of KM School in Muslim Nagar, Fatulla was raped and strangled to death after being taken to a field in Baktabali Lakshminagar area. She was 11 years old at the time of her death.
