Sakhawat for installing more CCTV cameras

Brig Gen (ret) M Sakhawat Hossain, a former election commissioner, recommended deploying CCTV cameras rather than buying EVMs in order to hold free and fair elections.

After a meeting at the Election Commission on Wednesday afternoon, he told reporters, "It's quite easy to find out even if votes are stolen using paper ballots."

He remarked on the suspension of the Gaibandha elections: "You (EC) have the right to halt voting using the constitutional authorities until it is satisfied that there will be free and fair elections. It is pointless to focus on who said what. The commission used its authority."

Former CEC Abdur Rauf, KM Nurul Huda, Kazi Rakib Uddin Ahmed and former Election Commissioner M Sakhawat Hossain, Rafiqul Islam, Kabita Khanam, Md. Shahnewaz, former EC Secretary Mohammad Sadiq, Mohammad Abdullah, Sirajul Islam, Helal Uddin Ahmed, MN Reza, former EC Additional Secretary Jasmine Tuli and Mokhleshur Rahman were present in the meeting.
