Ambassador Shahidul's appointment to the United States cancelled

The government has revoked M. Shahidul Islam's contractual appointment as ambassador to the United States.

The decision, which will be in force starting on September 1, was made after his appeal to the government, according to a notice from the Ministry of Public Administration.

In light of escalating tensions between the US and Bangladesh over an American ban on RAB officers, Shahidul's appointment has been cancelled.

Shahidul was the secretary general of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multicultural Technical and Economic Cooperation prior to his nomination as the envoy to the US in January 2021. Prior to that, he served as the deputy head of mission at the Bangladeshi Embassy in Washington.

The foreign ministry announced on July 13 that Muhammad Imran, who was the high commissioner in India, had been selected by the administration to succeed Shahidul.
