3 die as launch collides with bridge in Shariatpur

Three people were killed and two others injured as a passenger launch collided with a bridge in the Kuchaipur union area under Gosairhat upazila in the district early Sunday. 

The deceased were identified as Tanji Molla, 23, Shakil Ahmed, 25 and Sagar Ali, 23. 

Quoting locals, police said the vessel collided with the bridge at around 4:30 am, leaving one man dead on the spot and three others injured. 

The injured were taken to Gosairhat upazila health complex where the duty doctors pronounced Shakil and Sagar dead. 

Later, police seized the vessel along with two workers. 

The district administration also provided Tk 25,000 to each deceased's family for interment, said sources.
