Two pieces of the body of five-year-old Alina Islam Ayat was recovered from a drain in Bandartila Akmal Ali Road area of Chittagong city at around 3 o'clock on Wednesday.
Inspector Manoj Dey of Chittagong Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), the investigating officer of the case, confirmed the matter.
PBI Metro inspector Morjina Akhter said, “Two separate leg parts of Ayat were found. It remains to be seen whether her family can identify those. We are looking for the remaining parts of the body.”
Police have arrested Abir's parents and sister after arresting him in connection with the murder of Ayat and dismembering the body into six pieces. The court remanded Abir's parents for three days for questioning. Besides, Abir is on remand for seven days in the second round.
Abir's father, a van driver Azharul Islam lives on rent in Ayat's house while his mother Alo Begum works in a garment factory.
On the afternoon of November 15, Sohel Rana's daughter Ayat, a resident of Bandartila Waz Munsibari area of EPZ police station of the city, went missing while going to study in the school next to the house. After 10 days of disappearance, Ayat's family came to know that their neighbor Abir killed Ayat after abducting her.
Police said, “Abir kidnapped Ayat for ransom. He had planned to demand six to seven lakh taka as ransom. But Abir also said that he could not demand the ransom for the kidnapping because the mobile phone was not working well. When the child tried to scream, he strangled her to death. Then her body was cut into six pieces and floated in the sea.”
