Haji Salim granted bail in graft case

Haji Mohammad Salim, a legislator for the Awami League, was today granted bail in a case involving corruption.

Salim received bail when the Supreme Court's five-member full bench, led by Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique, heard his leave-to-appeal petition filed challenging the HC decision.

The other four judges of the bench are Justice Md Nuruzzaman, Justice Obaidul Hassan, Justice Borhanuddin and Justice M Enayetur Rahim.

Last year, the High Court upheld his conviction and 10-year prison term.

The complete wording of the judgment was made public by the HC on February 10 of this year, and Salim was ordered to appear before the relevant trial court within 30 days.

Salim surrendered before a Dhaka court on May 22.

On March 9 of last year, the HC upheld a decision by a lower court that had given Salim a 10-year prison term on April 27, 2008.
