Gaibandha-5 by-polls on Jan 4

The Election Commission declared on Tuesday that the Gaibandha-5 constituency by-polls will be held on January 4 of the next year.

Kazi Habibul Awal, the chief election commissioner, presided over a meeting of the EC this morning at the commission's office in Agargaon, where the decision was made.

Jahangir Alam, the secretary of the Election Commission, said this to reporters after the meeting.

He said, "Voting for this seat will be done by Electronic Voting Machine (EVM). All centres will be covered by CCTV. Candidates can start campaigning from Tuesday."

On October 12, the EC halted voting in the district due to electoral irregularities.
