3,000 BNP men sued over Naya Paltan clash

Three cases have been filed by the police in Paltan, Motijheel and Shahjahanpur police stations of the capital in connection with the clash took place between BNP activists and the police on Wednesday. 

Some 3,900 BNP leaders and activists were made accused in the cases. 

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Faruq Hossain told The Daily Samakal that police filed the cases under the Assault on Police, Obstruction of Public Works and Explosives Control Act on Thursday.

Some 450 people detained following the clash were shown arrested in the case, the police official said.

He added that BNP leaders Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Khairul Kabir Khokon, Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie, Amanullah Aman and Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas were shown arrested in the case.

Faruq also said that a case has also been registered in the capital's Motijheel police station. He, however, did not say about the details of Motijheel's case.

A man was killed and over 50 others, including four journalists, were injured in the clash in Naya Paltan area on Wednesday afternoon.

Police later picked up Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Khairul Kabir Khokon, Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie, Amanullah Aman and Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas near the BNP office.
