Shotgun-wielding man who wore Argentine jersey identified

Police have identified the person, who went viral on social media after firing a shotgun while wearing an Argentine jersey during the clash between police personnel and BNP activists in Naya Paltan of the capital.

The person is Mahidur Rahman, an Ansar member (affiliated) who is assigned with Paltan Police Station in the capital, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Detective Chief and Additional Commissioner Harun Or Rashid told The Daily Samakal on Thursday afternoon.

He said, “Work is underway to identify those who are spreading rumors that members of law and order forces are BCL activists and measures will be taken in this regard.”

A photo of a man wearing an Argentine jersey and holding a shotgun went viral on social media platform Facebook during the clash between BNP men and the police on Wednesday afternoon.

Many social media users claimed that the person wearing the Argentina jersey was a Chhatra League worker. After that, discussions started in various quarters about his identity.
