Fakhrul, Abbas’ bail hearing on Monday

A Dhaka court has fixed Monday to hear bail petitions filed by the lawyers of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, standing committee member Mirza Abbas and five other party leaders in a case over the December-7 clash between law enforcers and BNP men in city's Naya Paltan area.

Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Rezaul Karim Chowdhury fixed the date for the hearing of the petitions, said Joynal Abedin Mesbah, counsel for Fakhrul.

Abdus Salam, Khairul Kabir Khokon, Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, Fazlul Haque Milon, and Selim Reza Habib are the other five BNP leaders.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jashim sent Fakhrul and Abbas to jail in the case, rejecting their bail petitions on Thursday.

On December 8, 2022, a day after the clash started in front of the party's Naya Paltan headquarters, a case was filed with Paltan Model Police Station.

Around 3:00am on December 9, men in plainclothes who claimed to be law enforcement officers detained Fakhrul and Abbas from their houses.

Later, the two BNP leaders were shown arrested on the charges of inciting party followers to attack police in the Naya Paltan area.
