Sheikh Hasina ranks 42nd on Forbes' list of most powerful women

Bangladesh's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is ranked as the 42nd most powerful woman in the world by Forbes.

The year before, she was ranked 43rd.

The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, was ranked as the most powerful woman in the world on the Forbes list. President of the European Central Bank Christine Lagarde and US Vice President Kamala Harris came after her.

Nirmala Sitharaman, the minister of finance for India, is listed at number 36. She is one of the six Indians who made the cut.

Iran's Jina Mahsa Amini was honored by being included posthumously at number 100 on the influential list.

The American business journal has been compiling an annual list of the top 100 women since 2004.

Money, media, impact, and circles of influence were the four key metrics used by Forbes to compile the ranking.

Sheikh Hasina Wajed, the longest serving prime minister in the history of Bangladesh, is currently serving her fourth term.

She won the fourth term, which is also her third consecutive term, after her party, Bangladesh Awami League, won 288 of the 300 parliamentary seats.

During what she believes will be her final term, Hashina plans to focus on issues such as food security and access to education and healthcare.

An ongoing struggle for Hasina has been establishing a firm democracy in Bangladesh.
