Full list of intellectual martyrs is likely before March 26 of next year

AKM Mozammel Haque, the Minister of Liberation War Affairs, expressed optimism on Wednesday that the complete list of intellectuals will be made public by March 26 of the following year.

“A national commission is compiling a list of intellectual martyrs. 1,500 academics' names have so far been included on the list. One hundred additional applications have been made,” he said.

After paying respects to the martyred intellectuals at the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial, the minister told reporters, “Very hopefully, the whole list will be released before March 26 [next year].”

The minister added that there are very few families in Bangladesh who were spared the loss of loved ones during the Liberation War.

“However, a past prime minister of our nation claimed that not many people perished in the conflict. This is being said to muddy the waters regarding the number of martyrs,” he observed.

On December 16, the minister claimed, the Pakistani occupying soldiers gave up, but their allies did not.

He said, “They're still living here.”
