Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) student Fardin Noor Parash may have committed suicide, said Additional Commissioner (Detective Branch) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Mohammad Harun-Ur-Rashid.
He disclosed the information while briefing reporters at the DB office Wednesday.
The intelligence officer in charge of the investigation gave this idea amid the dissatisfaction of Fardin's family and his classmates, even though months have passed since the recovery of Fardin's body.
“After observing various signs, it seems to me that he (Fardin) may have committed suicide,” said Harun.
He further said, “I have also spoken to the postmortem doctor. I have seen the postmortem report. Overall, it appears to be a suicide case.”
However, he did not want to tell anything about the reasons why the BUET student committed suicide.
Meanwhile, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), which is in charge of the investigation, said that it has received important information regarding the death of Fardin Noor Parash.
RAB also informed that the case, filed in this incident, has progressed.
The elite force has called a press conference on these issues tonight.
On November 7, three days after he went missing, police in Siddhirganj found Fardin's body in the Shitalakhkhya River.
Sheikh Farhad, a physician at Narayanganj General Hospital where the autopsy was carried out, reported finding multiple injury marks on Fardin's head and chest.
Kazi Nuruddin Rana, Fardin's father, filed a case with the Rampura Police Station following the murder incident.
