27 lakh farmers to get free fertilizer, seeds

The government has decided to provide free fertilizer and seeds to some 27 lakh farmers across the country.

The Ministry of Agriculture has informed that 27 lakh farmers will be given free fertilizer and seeds in three categories under the incentive of Tk 170 crore to increase the cultivation and production of paddy in Boro season.

In a notification issued on Tuesday, the Ministry of Agriculture said that each of 15 lakh farmers will be given 2 kg of seed free of cost.

This assistance will be given under the incentive of about Tk82 crore to increase the production of hybrid rice.

Besides, fertilizers and seeds are being given to 12 lakh farmers to increase the production of high yielding varieties. It will cost about Tk73 crore. 

A farmer will get 5 kg of seeds, 10 kg of DAP and 10 kg of MOP fertilizer required for cultivation of one bigha of land for free.

Besides, an incentive of Tk15 crore will be given for planting and harvesting paddy. For this, a total of 110 blocks or exhibitions will be created in 61 districts. Each exhibition will be on 50 acres of land which will cost Tk13.70 lakh.

This incentive is being given from the agriculture rehabilitation support sector in the regular budget of the Ministry of Agriculture. 50 percent of these incentives have already been distributed at the field level.
