BF.7 is four times more contagious than other variants: DGHS

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Sunday recommended everyone to wash their hands often, wear masks in crowded areas, and receive the second booster dosage of the Covid-19 vaccine.

The order was given as Covid-19 instances in China and India were rising.

At a news conference held online by the DGHS at 10:30am on Sunday, Additional Director General of DGHS Professor Dr. Ahmedul Kabir warned reporters that "the new sub-variant (BF.7) of the virus has been detected in patients in India, therefore we have to be vigilant."

Ahmedul Kabir pointed out that the Omicron variant seen in China's sub-variant BF.7 is substantially more infectious.

It spreads four times as quickly as other versions.

For those who have not yet received the Covid-19 vaccine, the hazard posed by this version is significantly greater. Additionally, pregnant women who have co-morbid conditions are at danger, therefore they should have a second booster dose of the vaccine, he added.

Ahmedul Kabir added that meetings with the nation's hospitals were held by the health services division due to the fact that the infection is spreading throughout China and a new sub-variant of Covid has been discovered in India. Hospitals, including DNCC Covid Hospital, have kept isolation units prepared to handle a rise of coronavirus infections.
