Fakhrul, Abbas cann't be released from jail before January 8: SC

The Supreme Court's chamber judge has declined to stay the High Court's decision to grant bail to BNP leaders Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Mirza Abbas in a case sparked by clashes in Nayapaltan.

However, Justice Jahangir Hossain Selim, the chamber judge of the SC's Appellate Division, gave the BNP leaders' lawyers until January 8 to present bail bonds for their clients before the concerned lower court.

Additionally, on January 8, Justice Jahangir submitted the state's argument to the full bench for review.

As per today’s order, the BNP's secretary general Fakhrul and standing committee member Abbas are not eligible for release until January 8.

The apex court chamber judge issued the bail decision after receiving a plea from the state asking for a stay of the HC's order.

Attorney General AM Amin Uddin spoke on behalf of the state during the petition hearing, and senior attorney Zainul Abedin argued on behalf of Fakhrul and Abbas.
