Trial proceedings against Pori Moni suspended

The Supreme Court has asked the lower court involved has been ordered not to resume the trial proceedings in the drug case involving movie star Pori Moni for the next six months.

The SC Appellate Division requested a ruling from the High Court about a guideline requiring the state to justify extending the case's proceedings after March 1, 2022, within six months.

The supreme court decided that the trial processes will continue if the HC could not resolve the regulation within six months.

Following the state's submission of a motion to halt the trial of Pori Moni's case in March of last year, the Appellate Division's three-member bench, led by Justice Md Nuruzzaman, issued the ruling.

Justice Borhanuddin and Justice Md. Abu Jafor Siddique are other judges on the bench.

During the petition hearing, attorneys ZI Khan Panna and Shah Monjurul Hoque represented Pori Moni, and Deputy Attorney General Sarwar Hossain Bappi defended the state.

In a case brought under the Narcotics Control Act, a Dhaka court on January 5 of last year filed charges against Pori Moni and her two colleagues, Ashraful Islam Dipu and Kabir Hossain.
