EVM procurement project suspended due to fund crunch

In light of the current global economic downturn, the government on Monday decided against purchasing two lakh electronic voting machines (EVMs).

During a press conference this afternoon, Election Commission Secretary Jahangir Alam informed the media of the government's decision.

He claimed that in light of the state of the world economy, the decision to purchase EVM is on hold.

According to him, the Planning Commission informed the EC of its decision.
