Man gets death penalty for killing wife in city

A Dhaka court has sentenced death penalty to a man for killing his wife for dowry in 2019 in the city's Mirpur area. 

The court also fined convict Shaheen Taka one lakh, reports BSS.

As he was produced before the court on Monday, Judge Begum Mafroza Parvin of Dhaka Nari O Shishu Nirjatan Daman Tribunal-8 handed down the verdict. 

According to the case, on May 9, 2019, Shaheen killed his wife Riva for dowry.  

A case was filed against him by the victim's mother Sahida Begum with Mirpur Model Thana. DB Police Inspector MA Rahi pressed charge sheet against the accused and the trial began in 2021.
