President of Bangladesh is elected, not appointed: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal commented that there was no violation of law by electing former Commissioner of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Sahabuddin to the post of President. 

He said, Section 9 of the ACC Act states that the Commissioner of the ACC shall not be eligible to be appointed to any profitable position in the Republic on completion of service. 

“As a result, many people want to say that the post of president is an office of profit . But no one appoints the president. He was elected. The Election Commission has conducted the election for the post of President as per the law,” he said.

Kazi Habibul Awal briefed the journalists at his office in the Election Commission building on Wednesday. 

At that time, the CEC said, “If such a controversy is created on the question of the highest person of the state, it will be undesirable.”
