One killed in Gulshan building fire

A residential building in Gulshan-2, Dhaka, has caught fire on Sunday evening, killing one occupant.

However, the identity of the victim was not immediately known.

The body of the burnt person was taken to the Dhaka Medical College morgue by an ambulance at around 10pm on Sunday.

Being informed of the fire, some residents jumped from the building and got injured. They were rescued and admitted to different hospitals. Besides, many people are still trapped in that building. Several ambulances have been kept ready at the scene.

Earlier, Khaleda Yasmin, the officer-in-charge of the control room of the headquarters of the fire service and civil defence, confirmed the blazing incident.

She said, “There was a fire incident on the seventh floor of house number 2/A on road number 104 of Gulshan-2. On receiving the information, three fire service units reached the spot and started working to control the fire. Three more fire units then joined the extinguishing work.”

Later, a total of 19 fire fighting units were working to control the fire.
