Truck drivers in Tejgaon act like Tom and Jerry: Mayor Atiqul

The games of hide-and-seek truck owners engage in with the city corporation and law enforcement over the parking of vehicles on the street outside the Tejgaon truck stand have been compared by the mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation, Atiqul Islam, to the cartoon series Tom and Jerry, which features a cat named Tom chasing a mouse named Jerry.

The mayor made his remarks when visiting the road on Wednesday. Atiqul reached Tejgaon by 11 a.m., but not until the truck owners cleared the route, which was packed with vehicles on both sides. The Truck Malik Samity office had a number of parked trucks. Law enforcement then took the vehicles away.

Once more, the mayor pleaded with truck owners to stop parking their vehicles on the roadway. Since they claim they don't have enough place to park their vehicles, the truck owners begged the mayor to take action.

Atiqul declared he would pay attention to the truck owners' complaints after they had cleared the route.

"When we arrived, the road was empty; after we leave, it will be occupied. He asserted that the trucks on the road are to blame for the congestion and the public's suffering.”

"The city corporation authorities constructed a separate lane for rickshaws to address the issue. The cops will watch out to make sure trucks don't block the roadway as well. A committee has also been formed to maintain order on the streets,” he added.
