HC asks ACC to look into graft allegations against AL MP Golap

The High Court has ordered the Anti-Corruption Commission to examine into allegations that Abdus Sobhan Miah Golap, an Awami League lawmaker, amassed illegal funds by abusing his position and influence and  bought nine homes in New York.

The court further mandated that the ACC will submit, within four months, the reports of its inquiry into the allegations brought against the Madaripur-3 MP to this court via the Supreme Court registrar general.

The HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Khizir Hayat Lizu passed the order following a writ petition filed by SC lawyer Syed Sayedul Haque Suman seeking necessary directives in this regard.

He submitted the petition to the High Court on Sunday in the form of a public interest lawsuit, requesting that the court will direct the concerned authorities to look into claims that Awami League lawmaker Abdus Sobhan Miah Golap had acquired multiple homes in New York, gathered enormous sums of money illegally both at home and abroad by abusing his position and power, and concealed information about his wealth in his election affidavit in 2018.
